The Administrative Court has granted substitution of the Applicant in the ongoing challenge to the Charity Commission’s 2022 report into the demise of Kids Company.
Following the untimely death in January 2024 of Kids Company’s founder, Camila Batmanghelidjh, her application to judicially review the legality of the Charity Commission’s report had stalled, until the Administrative Court allowed the claim to move forward by substituting Kids Company’s former clinical director, Michael-Karim Kerman, as the Applicant.
In a ground-breaking judgment ([2024] EWHC 2637 (Admin)), Mr. Justice Swift found that Michael Kerman’s senior role in Kids Company made him identifiable with the charity and materially affected by the Commission’s report such that he had sufficient standing to bring the claim to vindicate the reputation of Kids Company and those who worked for it.
Leverets Group was instructed by Michael Kerman to bring the application for substitution, who in turn instructed Alex Goodman KC and Natasha Jackson both of Landmark Chambers.
