Location, Location, Location

For decades, London was seen as the top location for lawyers seeking a successful corporate law career. So why did Leverets leave the bright lights of London and locate in the Garden of England, and why is the Kent business community so vital to our success?

People, not postcodes

The remote working revolution proved that solicitors and barristers can work from anywhere, and London need no longer be the centre for high quality legal service.

But Leverets realised this long before Covid19, setting up our first office in Sevenoaks in 2018.

A talented workforce of legal professionals seeking a better work-life balance, lower operating costs, excellent connectivity to both London and Europe – all make Kent a great place to build a thriving boutique law firm.Fast-forward 8 years and we’ve carved a reputation for handling exceptional, high value work on behalf of large international enterprises and corporate clients, as well as high profile individuals and dynamic SME business leaders, with a wide range of specialisms including company and commercial litigation, personal and corporate insolvency, civil fraud, and public inquiries.

We’re a firm punching well above our weight. Outmanoeuvring the bigger firms, we hold our own by removing restrictions on where and how barristers and solicitors can practice, attracting the best legal talent out of the big firms and investing in state-of the-art technology.

In the words of our Head of Practice, Rupert Butler: “We pride ourselves on working innovatively, which boosts our productivity and in turn, our value for money, by combining Barristers and Solicitors under one roof. In Kent, we benefit from lower overheads, so we’re able to work differently. We introduced homeworking and flexibility through the greater use of technology and we thrived.”

But what makes us special is that we don’t just represent big city clients. We are very passionate about our role in supporting the Kent business community. We’re here for the people and the businesses that make Kent the great place that it is. And they give us lot back in return…

The power of collaboration

Investing in our community is in the DNA of Leverets. When businesses are active members of the community it encourages economic growth, and has a positive impact on people and the environment.

We actively participate in the Kent and Medway business community, attending events that bring businesses together to share ideas on productivity, collaboration, and sustainability, and to develop new projects that benefit us all, and the entire community of Kent.  We additionally actively participate with the Kent Business School and Kent Business Radio and well as the  Kent Environmental Business Network, a thriving community of like-minded people who share the common goal of ensuring local businesses drive change for good.

Rupert is a Kent Ambassador, supporting the County Council, and was recently appointed to the board of the Sevenoaks District Chamber of Commerce.

Working for the benefit of the Kent Community

Working for the benefit of our communities here in Kent is something we take very seriously at Leverets. We provide support to a range of local organisations including:

  • The Sports Trust F51 Community Skatepark – supporting disengaged youth via access to urban sport.
  • Sevenoaks Suns Women’s Basketball and Kent County RFU
  • FoodLoop – tackling the dual problems of farming food waste and food poverty across the county

Why retreat from London? I guess the real question is – why not?

As they say – “location is everything”.
